Couples therapy is aimed at people in close, lasting intimate relationships. It aims to improve the quality and satisfaction of both people in the relationship.

Sessions, i.e. meetings between a couple and a psychotherapist, can be longer than in the case of individual therapy and usually last between 50 minutes and 75 minutes.

At the beginning, we offer several consultation meetings that will allow you to identify and name the difficulties you are struggling with and establish a problem diagnosis. During the consultation, the therapist, taking into account the needs and expectations of the couple, will propose the best form of help and support.

Sometimes consultations may end with a recommendation for individual psychotherapy, and this will also be supportive for the relationship.

The role of the partner is not to repair past wounds but to build a safe relationship in the present.

Couples psychotherapy is also not a place to "fix" the partner.

Who is couples therapy for?

PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR COUPLES

Szymon Chrząstowski

What challenges might bring a couple to therapy?
  • communication difficulties,

  • growing conflicts,

  • a sense of unmet needs in the relationship,

  • finances,

  • experience of loneliness in the relationship,

  • differences in the approach to raising children,

  • shaking trust in the relationship,

  • difficulty expressing emotions towards each other,

  • addiction of one of the partners,

  • betrayal,

  • threat of separation/divorce.

  • a sense of burnout and reluctance to take care of the relationship

  • a sense of being misunderstood and wronged

Benefits of Couples Therapy
  • Better understanding of your and your partner's feelings, needs and behaviours

  • Expanding your listening and talking skills,

  • Acquiring new tools that will allow you to constructively resolve conflicts. Conflicts do not disappear because they are part of human life and that is why it is important to learn new and mature skills in the therapeutic process that will help you reconcile with each other faster.

  • A more satisfying relationship thanks to opening up to new information about yourself - defining your own boundaries, strength, responsibility and competences.

  • Organizing your life together by planning specific changes in various areas and working out a common compromise.

  • Your own space and autonomy in a relationship. A better understanding of yourself and your partner helps build closeness, trust, intimacy and a sense of security in a relationship

Before consulting a psychotherapist, it is worth considering whether we will find time for therapy and whether we are emotionally and mentally ready to engage responsibly in co-creating the relationship and the changes that will be needed to build a satisfying bond in the relationship.
