FIRST MEETING

During the first meeting lasting 90 minutes, the psychologist conducts a clinical interview with the patient, talking about their ailments and functioning in various dimensions of everyday life. During the first meeting, the psychologist also conducts a developmental interview regarding psychosocial functioning in childhood and adolescence, as well as information regarding the harmony of cognitive and motor development and motor coordination. The development interview is partly based on the ADIR protocol.

SECOND MEETING

During the second 90-minute meeting, the psychologist conducts a questionnaire using the ADOS-2 protocol, or extends the diagnostics based on other psychometric tools, depending on the information collected during the first diagnostic session.
Between meetings, the psychologist allocates additional time to analyse the documentation from previous psychological tests and opinions from psychological and pedagogical counselling centres, evaluates information obtained from psychological examinations and developmental interviews, and evaluates the results of questionnaires.

THIRD MEETING

During the third meeting (approximately 25-30 minutes), the results are summarized and suggestions regarding the initial diagnosis and recommendations are discussed with the patient. The psychologist emphasizes that the results obtained and discussed with the patient are the starting point for further deepening the diagnosis during a psychiatric consultation.

After completing the psychological diagnosis, a consultation between the psychologist and the psychiatrist takes place, during which the specialists discuss the results obtained so far and determine the further direction of the diagnostic process.

Within 14 days after the fourth meeting, the patient may contact the IN-MED reception desk for an opinion on the diagnostic process. The opinion contains detailed information obtained from the development interview regarding current functioning, results of questionnaire tests, described results of the medical examination, diagnosis and treatment suggestions.

FOURTH MEETING

During the fourth meeting, a psychiatric consultation takes place. It is necessary to assess the general medical condition and mental state of the examined person. During the medical consultation, the psychiatrist completes the interview previously collected by the psychologist, analyses the provided medical documentation or possible specialized tests, and conducts differential diagnosis in terms of the potential co-occurrence of other mental and somatic ailments. This is an essential element of the diagnostic process. People on the autism spectrum more often than in the general population co-occur with other mental disorders (ADHD, anxiety and depressive disorders), genetic diseases (fragile X syndrome, Duchenne muscular dystrophy) or somatic diseases (epilepsy, gastrointestinal disorders). They can potentially have a significant impact on current (sometimes unconscious) difficulties with functioning or the need to adjust or implement specialized treatment.

After the medical consultation, a second consultation takes place with the participation of the examining psychologist and psychiatrist, during which they jointly determine the final conclusions from the diagnostic process, establish the final diagnosis, and discuss general therapeutic suggestions.
